My generation ( Gen Y) are known as the global generation, culturally diverse; we have mobile careers , we are travellers and basically we don’t like being tied down to long term commitments. So I am not overly excited at the prospects of buying a car. They cost a lot, I could use that money to pay off my HECS debt or go overseas with this money. Besides anything else, it’s dangerous being on the road, according to statistics young people are far more likely to be involved in a road crash than any other age group on the road and besides, public transport allows me to use my ‘i’ stuff and keep connected with my friends and family rather than spending hours on the road concentrating trying to avoid crashing. So, do I really want a car? Introduction Buying a new car has legal and fiscal consequences. Without a full understanding of your rights and responsibilities you could leave yourself open to costly legal battles, fines or end up with a poor credit rating that would have consequences for many years to come. Purchasing a new car requires research, consideration and an understanding of your rights and responsibilities under the law before any contracts are signed or any vehicles purchased. The legal and fiscal responsibilities include loan repayments, registration, insurance, running cost and awareness of your consumer rights. I will be discussing responsibilities as a responsible consumer and inform you of your consumer rights in relation to purchasing a vehicle. Body The guidelines for this research are to following, a budget of $35,000 and then select either a new, 2013, KIA hatchback at $15400 or a used, 2009, Mazda 3 at $12000. The two financial institutions that I chose from were the ANZ bank and the Nation Australia Bank, known as NAB. From this I had to purchase a vehicle as well as making sure I had enough money to maintain the car as well, according to my needs. Loans for cars are obtained from financial institutions such as banks and building societies. The loan for the purchase and running costs of the car was financed by the ANZ bank rather than the NAB. Both are reputable institutions, however the cheaper rate in combination with investments I already had with the bank made it the better choice . The repayments were compared with NAB with a rate of 13.76% which was more expensive when compared with ANZ’s 12.99%. The loan with ANZ worked out at repayments of $ 186.12 per week which would total at $9678.24 per year. The loan taken out is a personal loan for $35,000 not a specific car loan. A secured car loan would have been cheaper as the institution would have the car as security. However I wanted more than the cost of the car so the extra needed to be a personal. Registration of a car is a legal requirement for the vehicle to be on the road, with dire consequences if this registration is not maintained. The registration allows for common safety standards to be enforced and provides an efficient system to prevent the re-registration of stolen or unroadworthy vehicles . A car must legally be registered to drive on roads and can be registered for 6 or 12 months. The cost for both cars was $173.80 for six months with a yearly cost of $347.60. Cars are registered at the Department of Main Roads customer service section. The following steps are needed to complete registration, a road worthy or safety certificate, a completed registration application form, a compulsory third party certificate if not included in registration, old registration papers, evidence of a vehicles garage address, evidence of an individual’s identification and a means of paying registration fees. There are two main types of insurances for cars. One is compulsory and the other optional. The compulsory insurance is called compulsory third party insurance and is collected as part of your vehicle registration in Queensland. It indemnifies vehicle owners and drivers who are legally liable for personal injury to any other party in a crash, however the coast of the third part vehicle are not covered. Comprehensive insurance, covers you and your property in the case of a crash. You can get third party property car insurance, however this does not cover damage to your own vehicle so I decided not to explore the option any further. Two insurance companies were researched, AAMI and RACQ. AAMI ‘s new car insurance calculated to $412.60 per year. This was compared with RACQ, which came to$ 617.20 per year. Insurance can be paid online which is cheaper, or at the insurance companies’ call centre. Used car comprehensive insurance was $441.98 dollars per year. AAMI was chosen as it was the cheapest insurance. It is a reputable company and the terms and conditions of the insurance policy suitable for the car’s requirements. Running costs are a fiscal responsibility that needs to be calculated into a budget when purchasing a vehicle. The following running costs have been calculated on the cars stipulated in the research guidelines. The new car running costs include fuel at $1357.20 for the year. This was calculated using an average kilometre usage of 15,080 kilometres per year. Servicing came to $ 904.80 and tyres came to $174.92 per year. Cleaning costs were included adding up to $1040 per year. The total running costs for a new car is $3477. The used car costs were similar with fuel at $1357.20, servicing at $821.86 and tyres $168.89.The costs of cleaning over a year was calculated to $1040 dollars. The total running costs for the used car for 12 months came to $3387.95, making the difference almost negligible. Consumer rights are the rights that are protected under law for every Australian. Car dealers,insurance companies and finance corporations are legally bound to comply with the terms and conditions of their deals. Consumers and companies are bound under government acts and policies to adhere to the loan, insurance terms & conditions and warranties. The new car has a warranty which ensures that the dealership should guarantee any faults that occur and are listed on the warranty. If they do not, you have the right to go to the Department Of Consumer Affairs, fill in a consumer complaint form and the department will act on your behalf. The dealership is obliged by law under the motor vehicle dealership act to guarantee a warranty. Even if the used car that does not have a warranty, The dealership must comply with what was advertised when selling the car or consumer affairs can support the complaint form. If you buy a car privately, there will be no warranty. You should invest in a Vehicle Inspection to determine the condition of the vehicle before you purchase. You should also check with the Personal Properties Securities Register (PPSR) to ensure that the seller has clear title on the vehicle and that any hire purchase or other loan agreements related to the vehicle have been paid out. If the seller does owe money on the vehicle, it could prevent you becoming the legal owner. You should also check the registration papers to ensure that the owner is the seller. If the vehicle is unlicensed you need to obtain proof that the seller has the right to sell the vehicle. Conclusion The total costs for the new car is $30577.68 with $4422.32 left over. The used car total costs come to $25018.09 with left over money of $9981.91. My budget allows for me to buy both either the used car or the new car with left over money from both. I have decided to buy the new car as it is covered with a warranty and my consumer rights will ensure I am covered if the dealer reneges on the contract. I also like the peace of mind of knowing that the car is new and reliable. I am not taking on a car that has been used with no guarantee on its reliability. So after all that; do I really want to buy a car? I have taken into account the costs and the legal responsibilities of buying a car, including my consumer rights and obligations .So, you know what; I am going to stick with public transport and where I have a lot of rights and no responsibilities, except to pay for my ticket and keep my mouth shut. The case facts were that a supplier company Regus relied on an exclusion clause that stated that Regus would be exempted from liabilities that would occur under any circumstances. In addition, another clause limited Regus’ liability to ?50,000 for any other types of damages. Epcot were Regus’ customers and they complained about air conditioning in their offices. Regus did not act and, therefore, Epcot stopped paying for the charges of their services as per the contract. Throughout the beginning of the story the Lady constantly criticizes her husband for being lazy and not being a chivalrous Knight. Because she questions the Knights manhood, the Knight forces himself to make a change. The Knight then tries to fulfill the expectations of Knights in our society by creating fake battles in the forests to impress his wife. Because he does a bad Job of faking his fatigue and injuries after these fake battles, the wife begins to catch on to his tricks. The wife then follows him to the next battle realizing that what he was saying the whole entire time was a fraud. Butlers applications to gender being performative comes into play here, because the Knight tries so hard to be a man -that his life turns upside down because of it. The Knights wife then brings back another guy to the house, knowing that because her husband is a woman in her eyes, he will not even think about doing anything to harm her. After analyzing Fionna, Prince Gumball, The Knight, and his wife, it is obvious that being yourself leads to the most happiness between one and their partner. The distance of each neural pathway includes and displays the following procedures. Ex) Visual stim ulus: First, your eye sees the ruler. Then, your eye sends a message to the visual, stimulus cortex, which sends a message to the motor cortex. The motor cortex sends a message to the spinal cord. The spinal cord sends a message to the muscles in your hand and fingers. Finally, your muscles contract to allow you to catch the ruler.John’s data shows that there were no significant differences. However, Arthur’s data shows that the neural pathway for pressure stimulus is significantly longer than the pathway for visual stimulus. This is shown by the calculated pathway length and the t-test performed. Calculation: The algorithm to calculate the reaction speed is  d = vt + ? at? where d = distance in meters v = initial velocity = 0 a = acceleration due to gravity = 9. 81m/s? t = time in seconds We need to manipulate  d = vt + ? at? to give us an algorithm for  t As  v  = 0 then  vt  = 0 therefore the algorithm is  t = sqrt(2d/a) Example d = 43. 9cm = sqrt((2 ? 43. 9 ? 9. 8)) t = 0. 299 seconds (sigfig) 0. 299319*10000(m to cm)=2993. 2cm or 29. 932m The calculated distance for Arthur’s Visual stimulus was 2434. 7cm, which was much shorter than the pressure stimulus length of 3028. 3cm or the auditory stimulus length of 2765. 3cm. The t-tests performed showed that there were no significant differences for John’s data, but Arthur’s data showed that the three sets of data were all significantly different. One huge weakness of this lab was that John and Arthur’s hands were not the same distance away from the ruler for every trial. This could have led to incorrect data ollection. There was another weakness when we were collecting the pressure stimulus, because the ruler fell more slowly due to the friction between the palm and the ruler, giving the appearance of a faster reaction time. Also, the auditory reaction time was higher than the visual reaction time because the voice of the other person was not perfectly in time. Another reason for this is that it had lots of variability when the person commanded the other person to â€Å"Go! † Our group could have attached another ruler on the sidewall to ensure a constant distance between the hand and the dropping point.Therefore, to improve this lab, we have to keep the distance between the hand and ruler constant for all trials. Also, when the person says â€Å"Go! † it also takes reaction time from his brain to his fingers to drop the ruler and from his brain to his oral muscles to speak â€Å"Go! † Therefore, to improve this lab, we need to use an electronic device that can automatically drop the ruler with a short â€Å"beep† sound. To decrease friction, we need to use a simple grabbing tool like tweezers instead of just grabbing with our hand, which creates sliding or friction depending on the hand’s condition (wet or dry).

Ricardo â€Å"Richard† Munoz Ramirez born February 28, 1960 is a convicted serial killer and is awaiting execution on California's death row. Before his capture, Ramirez was dubbed the â€Å"Night Stalker† by the mass media. Munoz’s crimes stem from murder to rape and home invasion, his first victim was on April 10, 1984, 9-year-old Mei Leung was found dead in a hotel basement where Ramirez was living at the time. Ramirez's DNA was matched to DNA obtained at the 1984 crime scene in 2009. On June 28, 1984, 79-year-old Jennie Vincow was found dead in her apartment.She had been stabbed repeatedly, and her throat was slashed so severely she was almost decapitated. On February 21, 1985, Sisters Christina and Mary Caldwell, aged 58 and 71, were found dead in their home. They each were stabbed dozens of times. On March 17, 1985, Ramirez attacked 22-year-old Angela Barrios outside her home. He shot her before entering her house. Inside was Dayle Okazaki, age 34, who Rami rez immediately shot and killed. Within an hour of killing Okazaki, Ramirez again attacked 30-year-old Tsai-Lian Yu, he pulled her out of her car onto the road. He shot her several times and fled.The two attacks occurring on the same day sparked media attention, and caused panic and fear among the public. On March 27, Ramirez shot Vincent Zazzara, age 64, and his wife Maxine, age 44. Mrs. Zazzara's body was mutilated with several stab wounds. Bullets found at the scene were matched to those found at previous attacks, and the police realized a serial killer was on the loose. Two months after killing the Zazarra couple, Ramirez attacked a Chinese couple: Harold Wu, age 66, who was shot in the head, and his wife, Jean Wu, age 63, who was punched, bound, and then violently raped.On May 29, 1985, Ramirez attacked Malvial Keller, 83, and her disabled sister, Blanche Wolfe, 80, beating each with a hammer. Ramirez attempted to rape Keller, but failed. The next day, Ruth Wilson, 41, was boun d, raped, and sodomized by Ramirez, while her 12-year-old son was locked in a closet. Ramirez slashed Wilson once, and then bound her and her son together, and left. On June 2, 1985 Edward Wildgans, 29, was shot and killed by Ramirez. His girlfriend was raped several times by Ramirez but survived.On July 5, sixteen-year-old Whitney Bennett survived after being beaten with a tire iron by Ramirez. On July 7, Linda Fortuna, 63, was attacked and Ramirez tried to rape her, but failed. On July 20, he again struck twice he shot and killed a 32-year-old man, Chitat Assawahem, and his wife Sakima, 29, was beaten and forced to perform oral intercourse. Later in the same day a Glendale couple, Maxson Kneiding, 66, and his wife Lela, also 66, were shot and killed. On August 6, Ramirez shot both Christopher Petersen, 38, and his wife, Virginia, 27, in the head.Amazingly, they both survived. On August 8, Ramirez attacked a couple, fatally shooting Ahmed Zia, 35, before raping Zia's wife, Suu Kyi, 28. Ramirez then left Los Angeles area, and on August 17, he shot to death a 66-year-old man in San Francisco, also shooting and beating his wife. The wife survived her wounds and was able to identify her attacker from police sketches as the attacker from other similar previous attacks. August 24, 1985, Ramirez traveled broke apartment of Bill Carns, 29, and his fiancee, Inez Erickson, 27.Ramirez shot Carns in the head and raped Erickson. Munoz had stolen the couple’s car and was found on August 28, and police were able to obtain one fingerprint that was on the mirror of the vehicle. The prints belonged to Richard Munoz Ramirez, who was described as a 25-year-old drifter from Texas with a long rap sheet that included many arrests for traffic and illegal drug violations. Two days later, his mugshots were broadcast on national television and printed on the cover of every major newspaper in California.The next day Ramirez was identified, chased, surrounded, and severely beaten by an angry mob in East Los Angeles as he was trying to steal a car. Police had to break up the mob to prevent them from killing Ramirez. On September 20, 1989, he was found guilty of 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries. During the penalty phase of the trial on November 7, 1989, he was sentenced to die in California's gas chamber. Business and society are interdependent. The wellbeing of one depends on the wellbeing on the other. Companies engaged in CSR are reporting benefits to their reputation and their bottom line. We cannot build the case for CSR solely because of its economic benefits – an ethical case must be made for companies taking responsibility for the impact of their relations with society and the environment, otherwise the foundations of CSR will be far too narrow. However, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is becoming an increasingly significant category by which a company’s reputation is evaluated. A variety of social and environmental issues across a broad spectrum of industries have recently been covered in the media – all of which directly affect a company’s reputation and all of which can be considered part of the larger CSR equation. Whether CSR is considered merely the latest trend in business management or whether it is laying the foundation for a newly advanced way of doing business, a brief overview of recent business news and corporate communications shows that CSR is certainly a relevant factor for how a company positions itself in the marketplace. CSR There is no universally agreed statement of just what CSR means and implies, and ideas on the subject are still developing. All the same, a common body of policy has now taken shape and won general approval among those who favors the approach. According to this way of thinking, a combination of recent changes on the world scene and pressures from public opinion now requires businesses to take on a new role, a newly defined mission. They should play a leading part in achieving the shared objectives of public policy and making the world a better place. In doing so, they should embrace the notion of ‘corporate citizenship’. They should run their affairs, in close conjunction with a group of different ‘stakeholders’, to pursue the common goal of ‘sustainable development’. Sustainable development is said to have three dimensions-‘economic’, ‘environmental’ and ‘social’. Hence, companies should set objectives, measure their performance, and have that performance independently audited, in relation to all three. They should aim to meet the ‘triple bottom line’, rather than focusing narrowly on profitability and shareholder value. All this applies to privately owned businesses in general and in particular to large multinational enterprises. Only by acting in this way can companies respond to ‘society’s expectations’. Making such a positive response is presented as the key to long-run commercial success for individual corporations in today’s world. This is because profits depend on reputation, which in turn depends increasingly on being seen to act in a socially responsible way. Thus taking the path of CSR will in fact be good for enterprise profitability: it will bring and sustain support and custom from outside the firm, and make for greater loyalty and keenness from its employees. To embrace corporate citizenship represents enlightened self-interest on the part of business. There is also a wider dimension, going beyond the individual corporation. The adoption of CSR by businesses generally is seen as necessary to ensure continuing public support for the private enterprise system as a whole. Corporate social responsibility Corporate social responsibility is necessarily an evolving term that does not have a standard definition or a fully recognized set of specific criteria. With the understanding that businesses play a key role on job and wealth creation in society, CSR is generally understood to be the way a company achieves a balance or integration of economic, environmental and social imperatives while at the same time addressing shareholder and stakeholder expectations. CSR is generally accepted as applying to firms wherever they operate in the domestic and global economy. The way businesses engage/involve the shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, governments, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and other stakeholders is usually a key feature of the concept. While business compliance with laws and regulations on social, environmental and economic objectives set the official level of CSR performance, CSR is often understood as involving the private sector commitments and activities that extend beyond this foundation of compliance with laws. From a progressive business perspective, CSR usually involves focusing on new opportunities as a way to respond to interrelated economic, societal and environmental demands in the marketplace. Many firms believe that this focus provides a clear competitive advantage and stimulates corporate innovation. CSR is generally seen as the business contribution to sustainable development, which has been defined as â€Å"development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs†, and is generally understood as focusing on how to achieve the integration of economic, environmental, and social imperatives. CSR also overlaps and often is synonymous with many features of other related concepts such as corporate sustainability, corporate accountability, corporate responsibility, corporate citizenship, corporate stewardship, etc. CSR commitments and activities typically address aspects of a firm’s behavior (including its policies and practices) with respect to such key elements as; health and safety, environmental protection, human rights, human resource management practices, corporate governance, community development, and consumer protection, labor protection, supplier relations, business ethics, and stakeholder rights. Corporations are motivated to involve stakeholders in their decision-making and to address societal challenges because today’s stakeholders are increasingly aware of the importance and impact of corporate decisions upon society and the environment. The stakeholders can reward or punish corporations. Corporations can be motivated to change their corporate behavior in response to the business case, which a CSR approach potentially promises. This includes: 1)Stronger financial performance and profitability (e. g. hrough eco- efficiency), 2)Improved accountability to and assessments from the investment community, 3)Enhanced employee commitment, 4)Decreased vulnerability through stronger relationships with communities, 5)Improved reputation and branding. Historical context The view that a business can have obligations that extend beyond economic roles is not new in many respects. Throughout recorded history, the roles of organizations producing goods and services for the marketplace were frequently linked with and include political, social, and/or military roles. For example, throughout the early evolutionary stages of company development in England (where organizations such as the Hudson Bay Company and the East India Company received broad mandates), there was a public policy understanding that corporations were to help achieve societal objectives such as the exploration of colonial territory, setting up settlements, providing transportation services, developing bank and financial services, etc.. During the nineteenth century, the corporation as a business form of organization evolved rapidly in the US. It took on a commercial form that spelled out responsibilities of the board of directors and management to shareholders (i. e. fiduciary duty). In this later evolutionary form, public policy frequently addressed specific social domains such as health and safety for workers, consumer protection, labour practices, environmental protection, etc. Thus, corporations responded to social responsibilities because they were obligated to comply with the law and public policy. They also responded voluntarily to market demands that reflected consumer morals and social tastes. By the mid-point of the twentieth century, business management experts such as Peter Drucker and being considered in business literature were discussing corporate social responsibility in the US. In 1970, economist Milton Friedmann outlined his view that the social responsibility of corporations is to make profits within the boundaries of societal morals and laws (but cautioned that socially responsible initiatives by corporations could lead to unfocused management directions, misallocations of resources, and reduced market competition, opportunity and choice). CSR emerged and continues to be a key business management, marketing, and accounting concern in the US, Europe, Canada, and other nations. In the last decade, CSR and related concepts such as corporate citizenship and corporate sustainability have expanded. This has perhaps occurred in response to new challenges such as those emanating from increased globalization on the agenda of business managers as well as for related stakeholder communities. It is now more a part of both the vocabulary and agenda of academics, professionals, non-governmental organizations, consumer groups, employees, suppliers, shareholders, and nvestors. Diversity of Perspectives The following summaries of perspectives of different organizations serve to indicate the diversity of views on CSR that exist in Canada and around the world. They reflect the challenges and opportunities for both the public and private sectors to effectively operationalize and align CSR between domestic, continental and international levels. They also indicate the challenges and opportunities to develop the most appropriate relationships between shareholders and other stakeholders as well as to use the optimal policy mix of legislative and voluntary instruments.
